“We need to talk, Foclner.”

“Actually, no we don’t. I don’t have shit to say to you Larchs, fuck off.”

Shrugging on his shirt, Vari’s eyes narrowed at the brunette as he tended to the buttons. He had a pretty good idea why Larchs was confronting him now and he really wasn’t in the mood to deal with it. He was positive it had to do with two things.

One, Larchs was graduating this year.

Two, he was positive the older boy knew that he and Rori were staying in the same two man dorm. He had pulled a lot of strings when Rori had reached ninth year and that wouldn’t have gone unnoticed. Especially since he had ended up explaining to the current Society leader why he had wanted to room with a dull-tie ninth year. Vari had told him what he was about to tell Larchs if he pushed it.

“Yes, we do.” the brunette was still taller than him at almost six feet to his five ten but that really didn’t mean much to the blonde. “I went and looked, every year you’ve set it up so that you’ve been rooming with Rori. Why?”

He pushed it. “None of your fucking business.” Vari deadpanned. Screw Larchs. He was graduating; if the bastard learned the truth he learned the truth. It would make his life a lot easier if he stayed away from his boyfriend anyway.

Besides, the past two years had shown him enough concerning Kaden vil Larchs and his interest with Rori. He was ready to fight and he knew it was coming. It wasn’t as if Larchs hadn’t wanted to try it for years.

“It is my business, Foclner!” he slammed the locker door Vari was standing in front of to change closed. No one was in the changing room, as a Silver and fill in vice captain for the hand to hand combat team, he normally left last. “I’m his friend, his best friend, actually. I know there’s something going on between you two...”

“And what if there is, Kaden?” he faced off with the other male, dropping formalities. He wasn’t in the mood to be polite. “What, if anything, are you going to do about it? Last time I checked, all three of us are old enough to make our own big boy decisions.”

Larchs timing was bad; Vari had been growing increasingly pissed off at the way the brunette had been treating Rori lately, like some sort of jealous boyfriend than a best friend. It didn’t happen often, but the blonde was feeling rather possessive at the moment and he was more than ready to tell this bastard who Rori really belonged with.

“You’re nothing but a plague, Foclner.” It was said low and hard as he backed off a bit. “It’s not enough that your family’s a disgrace, now you’re trying to drag Rori’s down with you.”

“Oh, shut the hell up!” violet eyes were blazing with anger “Don’t screw with me, Larchs, you don’t give a shit about Rori’s reputation. It’s not about disgracing his family or ‘ruining his life’ as you’re always telling him. We’re both considered geniuses so don’t play me off as an idiot. We both know the real reason you’re pissed off; why you’re coming at me like this.”

Crossing his arms, the senior smirked mockingly. “Oh really, Foclner? You think you know me so well? You think you, a worthless bastard child of a whore is on the same level as me in any fashion? Tell me, genius, why am I here, if not out of concern for my friend? The same friend who, as long as he stays away from the likes of you, will do well and go far for his family.”

A slow grin spread. Oh, he had waited years for this confrontation. He was putting his bastard in his place once and for all. “Just remember, you asked for it.” Crossing his own arms, he leaned against the locker door. “Let’s break it down by starting with who you are as a person. You, Larchs, are a noble obsessed with pleasing his family. You come from the best, you were raised to be the best, and you’ve excelled at everything.

“You want to be a good boy because if you’re not, you’ll end up like my mother and that terrifies you. All you know is how to be a noble, you couldn’t handle anything else, so you’re perfectly content to do anything and everything that’s asked of you, because the alternative is unbearable.”

The grin spread when Larchs’ smirk faded. “You’ve done a good job of being a good boy, haven’t you? You took the dorm brother position that your brother didn’t, you kept top Silver where your cousin didn’t, they’re even talking about making you heir and wouldn’t that be outstanding? That’d seal the sweet deal on your pampered little life and let’s be honest Kaden, you like power. You like ruling over people, controlling them. It’s all you’ve done with Rori and it took me years to actually get him away from you because you wanted him so badly for yourself you monopolized his time like the attention whore you are.

“What’s wrong, Larchs? You’re not smiling anymore. What? Didn’t think I wouldn’t see what you were doing all this time? Well just wait, it gets better. So there it is, Kaden vil Larchs in a nutshell. The perfect son of the perfect family who will get married and have the perfect life. There’s just one problem, one wrench that if thrown in would destroy everything you’ve worked for. It would make all of your fears come true.

“Despite that, you didn’t do what you felt you should have done. No, instead, you tried to ignore it, pretend it wasn’t there. You did a good job for the most part...until the wrench came flying back in the moment Rori told you he liked men.”

Larchs couldn’t hide the shocked expression that emerged at those words and he visibly paled, which was interesting as he was a naturally tan individual.  He swallowed nervously. “Foclner, what the hell are you talking about? You’re speaking nonsense.”

“No, I’m not.” All traces of false humor were gone. “You found out that your best friend, the boy you secretly harbored feelings for years liked men. It was one thing to have those feelings, but knowing that they could be returned? It freaked you out, because indulging in it would destroy your world. But too bad for you, Rori likes men, but he doesn’t like you. I wonder how much that pissed you off when he told you. Must have been pretty badly, since you tossed him out shortly after.”

Eyes narrowing, he walked up to Larchs as he had the day he had first met Rori. “You’re pissed off because you want Rori. You’ve always wanted Rori and the thought of him being with someone else besides you is infuriating. Him being with me is like a slap to the fucking face, because it means that in your eyes, Rori thinks I’m better than you. You never liked me, but when you started guessing that something was going on, oh, that dislike turned to some serious hatred, didn’t it?”

“You’re talking out of your ass, Foclner.” It was said calmly but Vari could see it, the rage underneath. The rage that he was sure he had been harboring for a while. Only his upbringing as a noble was keeping him from trying to seriously hurt him.

He’s a danger to Rori. He was convinced of it now. At this point, it was a matter of pushing him over the edge and showing him that this wasn’t a battle he would win. “Of course I am, Kaden.” He said sarcastically. “So then, since it’s not jealousy, since you’re not secretly harboring feelings for Rori, it won’t bother you when I tell you that we are together. We’ve been together for years.”

Smiling coldly, he began to pace around the taller male, sharp eyes taking in everything. Every movement, every twitch, all of it. “You’re just concerned, right? No need to get viciously angry at the fact that I’ve touched, held, and kissed Rori. That I know more about him than you ever will because you’re such a narrow minded asshole who doesn’t like hearing things that are unpleasant to you.”

He stopped right beside Larchs, taking in the tense posture, the way his fists were clenched at his sides. Leaning forward, he moved to whisper in his ear. “So you won’t get jealous when I say that Rori and I have been sleeping together for the past two years. In fact, just last night we had the most amazing se –“

“Fuck you Foclner!” He was cut off when the brunette exploded into motion, practically roaring at Vari as he struck out. Grabbing his arm, Vari jerked it behind Larchs back and in two seconds the smaller male slammed the brunette hard into the lockers, his hold almost bone breaking. Another cry came from Larchs; this time it was of pain. With his other arm the blonde gripped dark locks as he pressed himself against the other to keep him from moving.

“Here’s a reality check for you, Kaden.” Tilting his head, he moved close enough to murmur in his ear again.  The other struggled and was rewarded with a hard jerk to his arm, making him cry out again. “You’re not better than me. You were never better than me. All this time you gave me shit about my background and called me an idiot because of it...I guess you even started believing it yourself. But you and I both know that I’ve blown your scores out of the water as I trailed behind you in years, that even though you’re bigger, I’m better. Even if Rori hadn’t been in the picture, for that alone you would have hated me because I was nothing and yet I’m better than you at everything.”

The point was made, now it was time to hammer in the final nail. “Oh, one more thing I noticed about you, Larchs. I’ve noticed the few times something hasn’t gone your way how you react. I kept my mouth shut about how you’ve treated Rori but I’m not stupid. You care about your lifestyle more than you ever will about him. With that said, if you ever do something stupid to Rori because you can’t get over the fact that you want to fuck him so badly, I will destroy you. And I’ll do so to the point that you’ll never be able to pick up the pieces.”

Pushing himself back, he snatched his uniform jacket that had been sitting on the bench and shrugged it on. He’d come back for the rest of his belongings later, right now he needed to walk away before he did something stupid. They squared off again, Larchs shaking with barely contained rage as he held his shoulder.

“You’re not going to control Rori anymore, Larchs. Yes, we’re dating, yes, Rori is mine and if you’re lucky, I won’t tell him who you really are underneath that façade of friendship you hold with him.” He smirked. “Guess next time you’ll think before you decide you want to have a ‘talk’ with an ‘idiot’.” Vari walked out without a second glance.

Fingers dug into flesh, feet pressing into the sheets and mattress as Vari arched his back, face flushed and mouth agape. His entire body shivered as intense pleasure ripped through him. Gasps, moans, and soft grunts filled the air and then there was only the sound of ragged breathing in the darkened room. Violet eyes looked up at his ceiling as he breathed; the tension from earlier having fled with his release.

“Vari?” his lover moved so that he was lying beside him, a hand brushing blonde locks away from his face. The other male’s face was flushed, his breathing also slightly labored. “Are you alright?” His smile is thin. “You uh, normally don’t get like that unless you’re upset.”

“Huh?”  Stretching, he rolled over, wrapping his arms around Rori’s waist. “What are you talking about?” he had been upset, but that was beside the point. “Get like what?”

He looked thoughtful. “It’s...hard to explain. It’s like...you want me to be aggressive?” the albino frowned a bit. “You become less responsive and want me to become more responsive, as if you’re afraid of hurting me.”

“Mm.” It was somewhat true, Vari did have a real fear of hurting Rori; but that was concerning everything, not just intimacy. After seeing Rori be hurt by everyone around him, he never, ever wanted to be one of those people. It was one of the reasons why he went out of his way to not talk badly about Larchs. It was one of the reasons why he was so stressed; because he knew if he told Rori the truth he wouldn’t take it well.

“You hungry?” the blonde offered after a moment of silence, “I am.” Rori chuckled and the two slid out of bed and headed to the bathroom to shower.

Dressed only in loose dark green pants, Vari walked out of ‘their’ bedroom as he continued to dry his growing hair. Rori’s hair, now that he didn’t have to cut it, had grown like wildfire and was already down to the middle of his back. Like his grandfather, the albino kept it in a low braid. His own hair didn’t grow much, so it still wasn’t long enough to be pulled into a ponytail yet.

Since Vari still could not cook to save his life, it was Rori in their kitchen setting up ingredients for some sort of vegetable soup. Now that they were rooming together in the upper levels they pretty much only stayed in one room. At the beginning of the term they had been unable to keep their hands off of each other, enjoying the extended privacy they now had. A few weeks into it and they calmed down – somewhat – and now behaved like a normal couple living together.

Violet eyes took in pale skin so white it looked unnatural and equally pale hair. Rori was also shirtless but at fifteen the stick figure he had held in his earlier years was definitely fading. He wasn’t overly muscular by any stretch of the imagination, but he wasn’t sickly thin either. It had taken Vari a while to convince his lover that his body didn’t look like a freak of nature thanks to his parents and insensitive nobles who didn’t know how to keep their opinions to themselves. In his eyes, no one looked better than the person standing before him.

“Are you going to tell me what had you so upset?” he asked as the blonde came up behind him, wrapping his arms around a slender waist. “We’ve been together for seven years, Varicen, when you walked in tonight you looked...really angry.”

Tensing, lips brushed along a pale shoulder. “I did?” he had thought that he had kept his expression fairly neutral, had he given himself away without realizing it?

“Well, not your face but...” Rori turned his head slightly “When you’re angry, your eye color lightens a lot. That’s the best way I can put it.” Vari could hear the smile in his lover’s voice when he spoke again. “When you’re, uh, in the mood, your eyes become dark, almost black.”

“Huh.” He had never known that. Well, it wasn’t as if he went looking into mirrors when upset or aroused. Now he wanted to go look and see what shade they were now. “I guess you learn something new every day.”

Rori, who had been chopping vegetables, stopped. “Vari, you’re dodging me. It’s...something serious, isn’t it?”

My eyes must have been practically white if he’s this worried. Vari mused in slight amusement. He wouldn’t be pressing the issue otherwise.

What could he say? No matter what, Rori would never believe him, wouldn’t want to. It would probably crush, if not destroy him if he knew the truth, his bond with the two of them was that strong. The thought of Larchs hurting or betraying him wasn’t something Rori would be able to handle; he was still sensitive, even now. His lover’s world consisted of his boyfriend and his best friend, he wouldn’t want to accept anything else.

But at the same time, he didn’t trust Larchs and he didn’t want Rori to be oblivious in case something happened. Even if he didn’t believe him, the thought would be there at the back of his mind. Perhaps it would help someday.

Pulling away, Vari began to walk towards the living area. “It’s...” sighing, he turned to Rori who was giving him a curious look. “You know, from the beginning I’ve made it a point not to talk about Larchs in front of you. I’ll never ever tell you what to do, Rori but I...think maybe it would be best if you maybe tried to distance yourself from him.”

Rori was obviously confused by the statement and was now fully facing the blonde. “What do you mean?” His voice and expression weren’t guarded. Yet.

“Just...” how to say it? “I’m not saying I think you shouldn’t hang out with him or be friends. I know how much you value your friendship with Larchs. It’s just...I think it might do more harm than good if you guys continued to spend as much time together as you do.”

“I don’t understand.” He shook his head. “I mean, you and I are spending a lot more time together, that can’t be the problem...”

“No, it’s not.” Hands rose in a pacifying gesture. “Listen, I just...think that maybe being alone with him would be a bad idea. If you want, we can tell him about us and...”

“Vari, you know that won’t work. Kaden hates you and he wants to pretend that I’m going to marry Maria and that I never confessed to him. He’ll never accept us. I don’t like it either but –“

“That’s not it, Rori.” Frustrated, a hand moved through thick blonde locks. “Gods, this is...I just don’t think it’d be...” there was no other way of putting it so he decided not to. “safe. Larchs has a lot of stuff going on and...”

Now Rori’s expression was becoming guarded. “Are you trying to say Kaden is going to hurt me or something?”

Yeah, I do Rorizin. You’re the biggest threat to his perfect life and if he finally snaps he won’t react well. But he couldn’t say that, so he tried another approach. “Not that he’s going to; just that maybe it’d be good to back off for a while.”

Blue eyes took him in and for a while Rori didn’t say anything. “You two got into a fight.”

“Yeah.” He tried not to outright lie to Rori and he wasn’t going to start now. “We did. And before you ask yeah, it got physical...finally. Larchs wanted to talk, he didn’t like how the conversation went and decided to try and settle it with his fist.”

Sighing, Rori crossed his arms over his stomach loosely, bowing his head. “I...I’m sorry you two got into a fight.” Blue eyes flickered to violet “I know Kaden’s always been hostile towards you but he’s always been a good friend to me; I don’t need to be afraid of him. He’s been there for me from the beginning, just like you.”

I know. And in the beginning Vari was sure it had been genuine. He wasn’t so sure now. “I really have a bad feeling, that’s all, Rori. I’m not saying avoid him completely, but just...watch your back.”

“I –“ he cut himself off and turned his back to Vari. “Don’t you think you’re overreacting just a bit? I mean, you two got into a fight, it happens, you know? People lose their tempers and you two have a lot of bad blood.”

Frustration began to build and Vari tried hard to squash it down. “I know I’m naturally skeptical of people, Rorizin, but don’t you think you’re a little too trusting? I’m not trying to feed you garbage just because I don’t like Larchs. It’s not about me...it was...never about me.” It was always about you. “You know I’m not a jealous guy, I don’t think we would be together if I was. I’m not manipulative, I’m not ever going to lie to you if I can help it. I –“

“Kaden’s never given me a reason to believe he’d hurt me.” Their gazes locked again and Vari scowled because that wasn’t true and Rori knew it. Was his desire for denial that strong that he forgot Larchs borderline hostility two years back? “I don’t...I don’t like feeling like I have to choose one of you over the other and that’s all I’ve done between you two. There’s no reason for him to be mad at me, he doesn’t know we’re together. Why should I stop trusting him? It would only hurt his feelings and...”

“Rori, Kaden isn’t...he’s not what you think he is. I know how important he is to you, I know without him you wouldn’t be the person you are now. I never believed that it was totally my influence that helped drag you out of the hole your parents had shoved you in. I know that we’re it for you, that we’re all you have.”

“Then why?” he looked hurt and frustrated and Vari’s frustration was rising as well. “You two have been...the only things that have mattered to me. I’d do anything for you two because if I hadn’t met you two...I can’t just push Kaden away when he hasn’t given me a reason to, Vari; it doesn’t feel right to me. You’ve always been understanding so why are you all of a sudden doing this?”

“Because, I love you and I don’t want to see you get hurt!” he was beginning to lose his temper. Why wouldn’t Rori believe him? He had known it would happen but it bothered him that he wasn’t even looking as if he was considering his words. “Why else would I do something like this? I’ve never come at you about Kaden before, Rori. I’ve kept my damn mouth shut. Shouldn’t it mean something to you that I’m actually saying something now? You love Kaden, he’s like a brother to you but he...Rori he doesn’t see it the same way and hasn’t for a long time. He’s not...”

He knew he had messed up when Rori’s expression became closed off and he turned his back to him. Damn, he shouldn’t have lost his temper and said that. He shouldn’t have said anything at all.

Letting out a breath, Vari walked into their bedroom, tossing aside his loose pants for regular ones and put on a green button up shirt. When he walked out and headed to the door he paused at Rori’s confused expression.

“I’m going to go take a walk, is all.” He reassured the albino. “I said something I shouldn’t have, I’m sorry.” His chest clenched when all Rori did was nod and turn his back to him again. “I love you, Rorizin.” His lover didn’t respond and with a small sigh he left the room.

He never returned.

I’m an idiot. He could have just said nothing and merely watched over Rori, it wasn’t as if Larchs would be spending any real time with his boyfriend anymore once the term was over. Larchs had already announced he was marrying some girl from a different kingdom and had plans to do so after graduation. It wasn’t unheard of but many males usually tried to drag out an engagement as long as they could because they didn’t want to get married. With the brunette married, he wouldn’t have had to worry about Rori being alone with him ever again.

Our first real argument and it was over that bastard. He was not happy about that. Their relationship was a strong one. They trusted each other completely and were completely devoted to one another. Of course, it wasn’t as if it had taken a huge hit; Vari wasn’t so stupid as to say something that would actually drive Rori away or seriously hurt him. Rori was upset, more than likely stressed out and hurt, but it wouldn’t damage their relationship as a whole.

It was cold out due to fall drifting into winter but it didn’t bother him as he walked around the dorm’s large courtyard/common area. He’d go back up after a little while and apologize again. By then Rori wouldn’t be so stressed out. It wasn’t as if Rori would have reacted differently if Kaden had tried to verbally discourage him from seeing the blonde, if anything, he would have become more defensive. That was probably the reason Kaden had never tried; Rori would have eventually left him alone instead.

“Aren’t you out past your curfew, little boy?”

Stopping dead in his tracks, a cold chill went up his spine. Not at the words, the person was obviously being a smartass as someone of his grade didn’t have a curfew, it was the fact that the voice belonged to a woman.

There were no women that worked at the academy. How did she get on the grounds?

Turning, Vari started when he took in a very tall female, almost six feet who did not look distinctly human. Her skin was the shade of onyx and she had bright, glowing blue eyes. Long black hair fell in waves down to her lower back and she was wearing some sort of skirt and top that showed more skin than he had ever seen on a clothed woman and he had known prostitutes. A long slender tail was swishing slowly behind her and he was at a complete loss as to who this...person was and why she was even here.

“Who are you?” the woman began to walk towards him, her bare feet making little noise on the paved ground. She smiled at his question and the smile widened when she saw how he began to move into a defensive position.

“My name is Zana, Veciel Liunos.”

What? Veciel Liunos? Who was that? “I don’t know who you’re talking about, my name is Vari vil Foclner. You must be confused.”

Small fangs gleamed and she chuckled lightly. “Oh no, my dear Veciel, I am not confused. You might be in a different body, but I’ll never forget those eyes. The brightest violet...eyes are the windows to the soul, you know. You can jump into as many bodies as you wish, but you’ll still have those violet eyes.”

Alright, obviously this bitch is crazy. Vari began to take a few steps back. For some reason, this woman thought he was some guy named Veciel just because they had the same color eyes. Right. “You know, I think there’s a hospital a few miles south that you could check into and...”

One moment she had been standing a decent distance, the next she was in his face and he hadn’t even seen her move. He wasn’t even able to cry out as a hand gripped his throat in a bruising grip and he came face to face with those eerie eyes. He could see somewhat of an outline of an eye but it was difficult to concentrate with his windpipe being crushed and all. He clawed at the hand to no avail.

“I’ve come to collect, high elf.”

What does she mean by that? Panic filled Vari when suddenly light began to surround them. This was magic, he was sure of it. Not only that, but he had a sick feeling that he was being kidnapped. They were about to disappear to gods knew where.

No! Rorizin! If he was kidnapped, who would protect Rori from...

His thoughts halted when everything faded to black.

A loud gasp filled the room as violet eyes snapped open. This quickly turned to a coughing fit as his throat was so dry it actually felt as if it were cracked. Something came into his peripherial as he sat up. A glass of water.

The room was only familiar because of the set up, beyond that he knew not where he was. Downing the contents, he tried to sort through sixteen years of the memories of a young boy. A boy he used to be until tonight.

Sliding off the metal table, he took stock of his appearance. This was obviously his body; one could not raise the dead without the original body, even if it was little more than bones.  His skin was ashen instead of a healthy white although his long hair was still its nice shade of silver. He felt stiff and jerky, but that was from the fact that he was a living spirit inside a dead body. His entire essence wanted to reject the unnatural position it was in but could not. No, he was now the walking dead. How wonderful.

Stretching, he walked over to the other metal table where the blonde haired noble lay. His expression turned to one of disgust as he began to cast a freezing spell on the body.

“The gods must have thought it was amusing to reincarnate me as a filthy human.” Veciel muttered, tilting his head back at the dull creature. Despite his disgust, he had no intentions of remaining in this decayed body. He knew why they had brought him back and he had every intention of using it to his advantage.

There was only one mortal in the world he could think of that would be powerful enough to use the spell required to put him back into the boy’s body and that male hated him with his very being – unsurprising since he had mutilated and almost raped him. That was fine; Naliel didn’t have to like him to do what he required of him. He wished he could do it himself, but that was impossible.

He almost laughed at that. Arcanus magic was supposed to make the impossible, possible. What a load of shit. Had he known the truth two hundred years ago he never would have bothered with such flawed magics. ‘Ancient and powerful’ indeed.

Taking in the stone walls and the alchemy sets strewn all over the place he knew he was probably still in Bavaria; elves did not use stone like humans did. Zana wasn’t in, but he knew what they wanted from him and he’d play along, for now.

Although he had a living body to return to, gaining power as a human would be difficult. That was fine, he had his ways.

Maybe if he was lucky, he’d be able to finish what he had started with Naliel that fateful winter night. If he was really fortunate, he’d be able to carve the bastard that had killed him into pieces as well.

He couldn’t wait to get his revenge.

LOL, yeah. I don't do standard Seme/Uke, kind of boring to me. I feel relationships should be equal, so in my stories who 'tops' and 'bottoms' depends on mood for the couple.
